Family Tax Credit Programs
There are a variety of family tax credit programs for taxpayers to benefit from. Knowing about them can make a big difference in the amount of tax you pay or the size of your refund. This is especially the case if you do your own taxes. Doing your own taxes via snail mail is completely free of charge. Then there are free software programs that make things even easier. You can fill out your form online, which is far faster than writing all the information down. And, the programs help you through the process.
They also help you recognize where there may be credits available for you. One possible credit is the Child Tax Credit. With this credit you can receive as much as $1,000 for each child under the age of 17 years. If you exceed a certain income level you may not qualify for this credit. Another type of credit for families is Earned Income Credit. EIC, as it is known, is a credit for families whose income is under a certain level. While you do not have to have children to qualify, the number of children you have will factor into the amount of credit you receive.
Yet another tax credit program for families is the Child and Dependent Care Expenses credit. This credit helps reimburse parents for childcare expenses they incur while at work. This is a great way to save money on childcare, which can often be expensive. This program encourages working parents and helps them financially so they can make a living for their family and not go broke paying for the services of a childcare center.
Another type of family tax credit program is the Making Work Pay program. This program is a credit for working adults. Although not a large credit, it can add up with the other available credits. There are many deductions for Americans, you just need to know what they are. If you don't know a lot about these credits, use software that helps you through or have a tax professional prepare your return for you. If you are a small business owner it is definitely advisable to have a tax accountant prepare your return as there may be family credits and credits for your business.
